Bruce Sterling on Atemporality for Creative Artists

Warren Ellis linked a twenty five minute keynote address by Bruce Sterling on atemporality specifically geared for creative artists. It’s a fantastic talk, well worth the short time it takes to watch. I have to admit I’m kind of new to the Sterling-train and haven’t read much by him. I just added him to my Twitter and RSS feeds this past week or so.

Here are a few excerpts from the page and a half of notes I scrawled out while listening and sipping my red bull.

futurity now

atemporal feynman: google the problem, blog it, twitter it, youtube it, crowdsource it, etc

interventionist tactical media

the question is “now what?”; “where is the fun part?”

like moving into a new town. punk rage unnecessary; serene skepticism of historical narratives.

imagine it’s being read 20 years in the future, strip away technological wonder and novelty. refuse novelty.

personal museum economy
become the change you want to see; why not dress up as an astronaut? create yourself as testimony to a future that doesn’t exist yet.

futurity now = make me grow up.

Random shit, I know. But important. It has my neurons engaging in unnatural acts with each other as I type.

Go watch the video.
